Run-o'-the-Wisp

For my thesis project, I took on the challenge of learning how to create my own game and experience the production process. As I gain more experience making games, future projects can only get more and more ambitious and exciting. The game’s visual style is flat and graphical, using bold colors and abstracted shapes to form a simple narrative. The cartoonish look of the game gives the wisp character more child-like qualities an air of innocence about them.

“Run-o’-the-Wisp” is a light-hearted fantasy game following a small wisp fellow who is on the run from a pursuer. In European folklore, the will-o’-the-wisp is a spirit that lures travelers into dangerous situations. In the game I created, I twist that tale and set up a scenario in which the wisp is being chased rather than leading something. The player should walk away from my work with the impression of “not everything is as it first appears,” for the ending of the game is not as light-hearted as its visuals.
